Holiday Season

Now that thanksgiving is over, the holiday season is not over yet. There are so many different holidays coming up in December! It’s good to know about these holidays so that when December rolls around, you will know what kinds of gifts to get all your friends and family. It’s also helpful to just have the extra knowledge of the world.

The obvious holiday coming up is Christmas. This is the holiday that has people crazed from the end of Halloween! Christmas is on December 25th and is celebrated by families and friends all around the world. There is Christmas trees, decorations, music, and gifts. The most important part of Christmas is going to church to celebrate the birth of Jesus. This holiday is celebrated not only by Christians but many different people around the world. Christmas is about spending time with your loved ones and giving gifts and so much more.

Another holiday during the month of December is Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is cultural holiday that celebrates African Heritage and identity. This is to celebrate the harvest festivals that are traditional in Africa. It is celebrated by lighting 7 candles for 7 different important symbols. Celebrating Kwanzaa also includes a lot of traditional songs and dance. These symbols are unity, self-determination, collective work-responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. Kwanzaa is celebrated from December 26th to January 1st.  This holiday is so colorful, and beautiful and also includes gift giving and decorations that represent the 7 symbols.

One more popular holiday during the month of December is Hannukah. Hannukah is a Jewish holiday that has many different variations of spelling. Celebrating Hannukah means lighting the “menorah” which holds 7 candles. Hannukah is celebrated for 8 nights and usually falls on different dates each year. The date of Hannukah every year depends on the Hebrew calendar. Hannukah is also known as the festival of lights. Hannukah is celebrated by eating traditional foods, playing with dreidels, and exchanging gifts.

There are so many other holidays to talk about but these three are the main ones celebrated in the United States during the month of December. December is a busy time for everyone and a great season to give back. It’s the perfect time of month to wrap up our year by being humble, gracious, giving, and thankful for what we have; and what we can do for others. No matter what holiday you celebrate, L.A.
